Novel Improv Code of Conduct

At Novel Improv, we believe great improv comes from trust, collaboration, and a supportive environment. Our goal is to create a space where improvisers feel safe taking creative risks, supporting one another, and growing together.

Our Values

Respect
We treat all members with respect, regardless of background, identity, or experience level. We value different perspectives and recognize that humor and creativity can look different for everyone.

Safety & Comfort
We are committed to maintaining a space free from harassment, discrimination, bullying, or abusive behavior. Everyone should feel comfortable participating and expressing themselves.

Collaboration
Improv is a team sport. We practice active listening, support our scene partners, and approach our work with a “yes, and” mindset.

Curiosity & Growth
We are always learning. Members are encouraged to experiment, take risks, and support each other’s development as improvisers.

Open Communication
We value honest, respectful conversations. Feedback is encouraged and should always be constructive, specific, and kind.

Expectations for Members

Members are expected to:

  • Be respectful and supportive of fellow performers
  • Arrive prepared and on time for rehearsals and performances
  • Communicate if they are unable to attend
  • Use language that is respectful and inclusive
  • Respect physical boundaries and obtain consent for physical contact in scenes
  • Contribute to a welcoming and collaborative environment

Reporting Concerns

If you experience or witness behavior that conflicts with these values, please reach out to a trusted member of the troupe or contact us at:

admin@novelimprov.com

All concerns will be taken seriously and handled thoughtfully.

Membership Fit

Novel Improv is an ensemble-focused group. New members typically participate in a short trial period so everyone can get a sense of the group dynamic and ensure it’s a positive fit for both the individual and the ensemble.
